Just reminding us why the BBC is worth every single penny of its licence fee, when you compare this with everyone's else's crap - ITV's "Record of the Year" and C4/Sky's endless top 100 about top 100s. The FF50 people clearly didn't select their no.1 to sell more product - although I don't believe the NME did either, let's face it they're a soft target, but that's another story.
The winner scores high points on all counts despite the song essentially being the Baz Lurhmann one composed by an old Scouser, but it comes from the wonderfully titled LP "Wake Up And Smell The Offy" (not sure people outside the UK will get that one - an offy is a beer store), and as you can see form the title, it's the only song in existence to contain the word Azerbai-fucking-jan.
And you don't have to listen to Radio 1 all night (admittedly a lot better than listening to Radio 1 all day) to hear the winner, you can download the MP3 straight from the official website here.
Was very pleased to see Whistler's Delight managed to get in there at no.15!
